model Town case s p tariq aziz punjab police Lahore

PAT lawyers cross-examined SP Tariq Aziz, witness presented by the police in the FIR registered by police in the Model Town case. He said that he was present in Model Town on June 17, 2014 and was injured by a bullet but despite this, he continued to command the police party. He told that he lay down in the ambulance and someone told him that the PAT workers resorted to stone-throwing.

Talking to media after the hearing, Rai Bashir Ahmad Advocate, Naeem-ud-Din Chaudhry Advocate, Sardar Ghazanfar Advocate and Jawad Hamid stated that it is a matter of surprise that SP Tariq Aziz remained on the site despite being injured. He also confessed during the cross-examination that DIG Rana Abdul Jabbar was also present on the occasion. They said that there are visible discrepancies in the statements Tariq Aziz gave under 161 clause and the one he gave before the anti-terrorism court.

Jawad Hamid reminded that he is the same SP who embraced Gullu Butt for vandalism and spreading terror and patted on the back for his ‘performance’. He said that it is unfortunate that there are police officers in the Punjab police that make criminals the commanders of the police party and use them to vandalize the public property. He said that we exposed the lawlessness of the police, stating that it is truly unfortunate that the officers like Tariq Aziz who bring a bad name to the police force and spread terrorism are still present on their positions.

Naeem-ud-Din Chaudhry Advocate stated on this occasion that the lawyers representing former DIG Rana Abdul Jabbar gave a written undertaking to the court that their client will appear before the court in every case on May 18 but he did not. Again a promise of appearance of fugitive DIG on May 26 was made but still he did not bother to do so. He said that it is to be seen what the court says about the DIG who has been running away from justice. He said that the important accused in the Model Town tragedy is mocking justice and law by not appearing before the anti-terrorism court.
